Colour eReaders

Loving the work of Liquavista just now. They are tinkerers of eReader type screen technology. They use Electrowetting technology to produce efficient colour, which makes the screen 3 to 4 times less power hungry than a normal lcd but with the added bonus of not needing a backlight and being perfect in full sunlight. Saw all this on BBC News' click programme, which had quite a positive spin on it; they showed a demo video but the refresh rate is , not surprisingly, absolutely awful. You certainly wouldn't want to watch any film or tv on the current technology, but as a computer screen or as an eReader or Slide viewer, it would be awesome. The best bit about this though, is power-light technology is THE next big thing (this is hardly a revelation of course, its a clear bandwagon already). Laptops that have battery power rated in days will be huge (big battery power is probably the iPads biggest selling point), but current battery technology is not exactly full of innovation, so we will see every other component use less and less power. We have now reached the limit of power vs cool new bits.

Had to laugh at the presenter at the into who suggested that current eReaders make the zx81 seem fast. Really? Did you actually use a zx81? good grief.
